It has been awhile since my last entry. I have been busy doing my real estate thing and launching the new Bahian Heat campaign. There are only so many hours in a day. Here is what I have been up to since the last entry.

Closed on the brownstone in Bedsty, Brooklyn. It was a close call. Didn't know til the last minute if it would close. There are so many people involved in closing a real estate transaction; Lawyers for the buyer, seller, banks and others. Months of work go into making the deal happen and poof, it can all disappear if anyone gets up from the table.
Trying to get another deal done but the buyer and seller are $300,000 apart. It will take all my skills and good luck from God to make that happen. It is sometimes difficult to get both the buyer and seller to see how good the deal is for both of them but that is what I get paid for. Went to Philly this weekend to promote the Bahian Heat event. There were people from all over the country to participate in the event. Unfortunately, I got there too late to experience most of the programming but I did meet so many beautiful brothers and sisters at the parties and the expo. Next stop is Washington, DC.
Have you seen the West Wing recently. Jimmy Smits is kicking ass as President elect. I think it is interesting that the show will end at the same time a powerful man of color takes charge...hmmmm. Wonder who came up with that idea. Well guess it is better than never seeing it.

I watched the demonstrations all over the country yesterday and was happy to see so many Latin people coming together for a cause. Will I live to see the day when that many Black people will come together for a cause? I hope so but if we didn't do it for Katrina, Dafur, the Sudan, AIDS, Unemployment and Healthcare, I guess we never will. Such a shame. This Saturday, May 6th at Brooklyn Borough Hall - 209 Joralemon Street there will be a Congressional Hearing for artists on health care. The hearings are from 10am - 5pm. Special Guest Congressman John Conyers will be presiding over the proceedings along with Council Member Charles Barron. Art Without Walls has put so much work into this event. Please come out to support.

Throughout May, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will present "Race & Hollywood: Black Images on Film," an on-air movie event that chronicles the varied concepts, stereotypes and imagery of African Americans as represented in classic Hollywood cinema. Noted film historian Donald Bogle and TCM's primetime host Robert Osborne will help viewers put in context a full slate of films, and several prominent African Americans will provide further commentary and retrospective, including Eva and Evangela Anderson, Lenny Bluett, Bill Cosby, Charles Dutton, William Greaves, James Earl Jones, Bill Nunn, Richard Roundtree, Cicely Tyson, Richard Wesley and Forest Whitaker.

Week in Review
* Finished the Bahian Heat site, well almost. Still have videos to put up but it getting there.
* Went to the Halstead rebranding and awards ceremony. We have a new look, new style but same attitude. I also receive my Tiffany Gold clock for over 5 years of service to Halstead. Well actually it's six years but they wanted to make the presentation at this big gala. Yeah right.
* Went to see Bridge and Tunnel...see below
* Contract was signed on the Brownstone I represented in Brooklyn.
* Was asked to join two non-profit Boards. More about that later.

* Helping my friend Jose Camilo with his website. He just opened Camilo Apartments in Santo Domingo, DR. It has six one-bedroom apartments complete with everything in the Colonial Zone. I stayed there twice before under the Monaga banner. Good luck Jose.

I'm back. Did ya miss me. It has been so long since I posted to this blog. Please forgive me but I had my hands full with DIH2 and preparing for the upcoming Bahian Heat in Brazil. So much has happended since we last posted. More on that in the next entry.

Just Stuff

Saw "Bridge and Tunnel" by Sarah Jones last night on Broadway. This show blew me away, and for those of you who know me, that ain't easy. The one women show reminded me of the first Whoopi show on Broadway where she mixed political satire with current events. I walked away with much more sensitivity about the plight and perspective of so many different kinds of people. Please make it a point to see this show. This sister has it going on...and once again...I didn't see many of us in the house. Guest we be at the Beacon.
The Legendary Fred Pierce will be saluted at his birthday party this Saturday in NYC at the My first such event is called Eclipse which will be held on select Saturdays at Club Speeed. We'll be using the floors that Shelter has now vacated, the third level floor with the coat check, the large dancefloor on the 4th floor and the rooftop patio -- plenty of space to get your dance on. There will be two separate dancefloors and the house heads won't be forced to squeeze up in a back closet somewhere to dance. Our first event will be Saturday, April 8 and that will be a very special party as I celebrate my birthday!

Black History Month is here with a bang. First the shocking news of the death of a legend, Mrs. Coretta Scott King and the premiere of episode one of an amazing program that all should see on PBS "African American Lives"

I had the privledge of meeting Mr. Gates in Martha Vineyard two summers ago while attending an event there. We spent time talking about the importance of family and history. He is such a wise man and a gentle soul. African American Lives is something that you should tell all your friends about. Especially the young kids that think that it is cool to curse on trains in front of women, wear there pants to the ground. This program should be mandatory in all middle and high schools, black and white. Enjoy and learn more about our history then ever before.

The Life of A Busy Man

I am often asked why I am single. With a life like mine, who would want to date me. Currently I have so many projects going I barely have enought time to sleep but it's all good. I find that although I work alot each project gives me joy...sometimes. The real estate business is booming with a brand new townhouse listing in Brooklyn and guess what folks...it's under a million dollars. A rare fine these days. Next up is a two bedroom in the West Village in a pre-war building ....just over a million...clients flying in to buy property and more to come. While all that is going on it's time for the mad rush for VIP passes for Dominican Island Heat 2. Yes, there are still a few available but folks we got to stop waiting til the last minute. Planning these types of events is a nightmare especially when you want to make sure you have enough of everything for the people. We have been also getting alot of calls regarding Bahian Heat. Even though it is in August, people know you have to plan for that one. Germany's star performer, Ikenna is in New York this week to rest before her worldwide tour continues so my partner and I will be showing her around the big apple and the Executive Director of the Batey Relief Alliance is also hear in talks with us about the special reception at DIH2 for the Batey Relief Alliance and La Casa Rosada. Now...would you date me?

Martin must be thinking...what the heck is going on down there. We have wars going on all over the world, the poor are getting poorer, babies are dying at the hands of their parents, AIDS is killing babies in African countries and unprotected sex is on the rise. Winter is like spring and spring like winter. These are the sign of the times.

On this day of honor I would like to point you to the Dominican Island Heat website. Today, don't look at the pictures, the videos or the events. Go straight to the charity section and read up on La Casa Rosada- watch the video I made of them and find a way to help. Go then to the Batey Relief Alliance website and remember what it was like to be discriminated against because of your color. If you don't want to do that, I ask that you do something to honor a man who respresented the thousands of our people who gave up so much for our freedom. Parties and vacations are great but let's not make this day or weekend just that. RIP MLK and thank you.

The Waiting Game

Well it is a New Year. What exactly that means I am not sure. Jan. 1 of any year is just another day to me. It always respresented nothing more to me. Each day I wake up is a new day and a new year right? At least that is what I think.
The question of the day is why does it still appear like we always wait til the last minute to commit to things. I have been talking to alot of promoters over the last few weeks. They all talk about how difficult it is to plan events for our people because brothers wait til the last minute to commit to going to a event. By now, most experienced promoters expect that result however the sad thing is that their customers don't know the expense it cost them. I said to the promoters, you have to tell them. Explain to your customers that when they wait til the last minute, airfares are higher, hotels are higher, events are less organized just because they don't know how many guests to plan for. The funny thing is that people will usually pay the higher cost for waiting and don't complain. Hmmm, got to scratch my head on that one.

Don's & Divas -

Sorry for the delay in posting but I have been so busy wrapping up real estate business and the final preparations for Dominican Island Heat and Bahian Heat that there just wasn't enough time. I had to write about last nights Wendy Williams' Dons and Diva Party.

DIH2 affiliate James Saunders always gets the hookups as well he should after so many years as a premier club promoter. Anyway, we got these hot velvetlike invitations hand delivered and went down to this all black attire affair. Once we got there we got in the VIP line and were given not one but two bands...one VIP and the other ALL ACCESS. I was impressed. The Crowbar was packed with beautiful black people what a site. There were two VIP areas and three separate dance floors with individual DJ's who were all the bomb. This 5 hour open bar event will be talked about for months.

The who's who were there hanging in the VIP VIP room; Mary J. Blige, Bobby Brown, Terrance Howard, Ms. Jamie from Sista 2 Sista and a bunch of rappers who I would know. Wendy Williams was holding court as well. Cake Man Raven made the biggest cake I have ever seen. I think it was of Wendy Williams. I thought it was a statue. Amazing. The food and liquor was flowing. The painted dancers and models were outstanding. Over all it was a special event.

Wal-Mart apologizes to black man for bad check accusation an Associated Press report 12/02/05

TAMPA - Wal-Mart has apologized to a black man who was accused of trying to pass a bad check as he was buying thousands of dollars in holiday gift cards to distribute to his company's employees. Employees of a Wal-Mart Supercenter called deputies last week to apprehend Reginald Pitts after he handed over a $13,600 check to pay for 520 gift cards that were to be given to employees at GAF Materials Corp., a roofing materials manufacturer where Pitts is a human resources manager.

The company, which had $1.6 billion in revenue last year, had been spending about $50,000 a year on Wal-Mart gift cards and never had a problem when it sent a white employee to pick them up. "I keep going over and over the incident in my mind," Pitts told the St. Petersburg Times. "I cannot come up with any possible reason why I was treated like this except that I am black."

Wal-Mart, based in Bentonville, Ark., has launched an internal investigation of the incident and apologized to Pitts. "We probably could have handled it better, but I won't know until we complete the investigation," Wal-Mart spokeswoman Sharon Weber said Friday. "Our company is built upon respect for the individual, and we have no tolerance for discrimination of any type." Pitts said that when he went to the store last week to pick up the already printed cards, store managers stalled for about two hours after he handed over the check while he stood waiting by the customer service desk. He had handed over his GAF business card, his driver's license and the toll-free numbers to GAF's bank. His accounting supervisor assured them over the phone that GAF was good for the check.

Later, two Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies appeared. One grabbed Pitts by the arm. He objected to the rough handling and asked if he was being arrested.
"We need to talk with you about this forged check that you brought in here," Pitts recalled one deputy saying. The deputy said later Wal-Mart had called and reported that Pitts had committed a felony. A short time later the deputies determined there were no grounds for a criminal charge and that Wal-Mart would not press the issue further. Pitts' company has lodged a formal complaint with Wal-Mart.

"We are very concerned about the way Mr. Pitts was treated by Wal-Mart," said Patricia Kim, GAF vice president of employment and labor. "We are awaiting Wal-Mart's response." So far, four Wal-Mart officials, including a regional vice president of operations at corporate headquarters in Bentonville, have called Pitts and apologized for the incident. But no one from the store did, and nobody from the company has explained what happened. Citing the internal investigation, Weber declined to comment on the specific actions of the Wal-Mart employees and said she didn't know if they would end up apologizing to Pitts individually. After the incident, Pitts' company decided to buy its gift cards from Target instead.

When Something is Not Enough

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. Imagine my surprise when I wrote to this organization and asked them to post the Dominican Island Heat 2 event in their e-newsletter. They asked me to supply information about the event which I have posted below and I have also posted their response. Maybe I am sensitive because I believe that we, the producers of DIH2, take very seriously our commitment to raise funds and awareness for two very worthy charitable causes. I guess since we are not the White Party of Ft. Lauderdale or the Black & Blue party of Montreal, our efforts and that of our attendees is not important enough to be publicized.
I called a friend who I respect to help me draft a response and he surprised me by saying it was a waste of time. "GLAAD has the power and they don't care so why waste your time and mine drafting something that would only be deleted?" he said. I am therefore putting it down here so I can move on. We at Urbane Concepts believe that the La Casa Rosada Orphanage that cares for helpless Dominican babies with HIV/AIDS is important. We feel that the thousands of Dominican and Haitians that suffer in the Batey's of the Dominican Republic and the work of the Batey Relief Alliance is also important. Most importantly we feel that it is very important that the African American's that come to the Dominican Island Heat event have the opportunity to give if they chose to help these people. Last year as a result of the efforts of Dominican Island Heat, it's guests and the Monaga Corporation, we were proud that some of the contributions helped the La Casa Rosada orphanage buy much needed land to expand their facility. Even after the event people have continued to give. Perhaps the people at GLAAD need to rethink what is important to cover. Not that Gay marriage is not important but to me so is the fact that we also are caring people that don't just want to party.
Finally, it is not that GLAAD does not have the right to publicize whatever events they want but I remember not so long ago when it was accused of not being sensitive to the needs of the African American LGBT community. They reached out to me and asked me to help them reach the community. Ahhhh such short memories. Thank you for letting me get this out so we can continue to help in any little way we can. We hope you will join us in spreading the word. Whether or not you come to DIH2 is not important as much as getting the word out about these organizations. We want to thank those affiliates, promoter partners and individuals that continue to spread the word. Here are the communiques that started all of this.

Bottom line: none of your promotional materials are trumping up charitable involvement to the extent that you are telling me it exists.This policy applies to all events and orgs, not just yours. Tonight was a wonderful night. After yet another five hour stint in the Dentist's chair, I took a nap and got up in time to help James Saunders prepare for his birthday party at the Octagon. It was nice to see all the brothers come out and salute him. Fred Pierce rocked with house music and two suprise dancers showed up...and I mean up. Anyway, DJ Unknown then took over the turntables to play to the regular Hip-H0p audience.

Next stop was to run up to Harlem's Karate Club to accept an award from two legends of the Ball community, Kevin Omni and Willi Ninja. This was the first award I have received since the Who's Who in American Colleges. I really appreciate the acknowledgement for my 4 years with Black Pride NYC, Inc. It is interesting that the ball community was the only one that felt an honor was due. It couldn't have come from a better community. Thank you Kevin, Willi and Wolfgang.

I was cleaning up files today on my computer. I have 100 gig hard drive and it was almost full of pictures and files from all of the projects I have worked on during the last for years. Purged were the hundreds of pictures left over from the Black Pride NYC years...don't worry, they have been archived on DVD and all the video footage from Dominican Island Heat I. I event had stuff from the early years. One day I will talk about my years with Patti Labelle, Sister Sledge and Denise Williams and others. As I went through this material which represented so much of my time it filled me with bitter sweet memories. Still struggling after all these years. I have so many creative friends that are still struggling to reach financial freedom. They have the dreams and the vision but not the capital necessary to propel them to new heights. It is truely a shame because the money is within the African American community if we would just learn to trust, invest and share it.
In the last two weeks I know of 4 benefits that took place in NYC. Most of them were centered around raising money for grassroots organizations. From the reports I have been given very few even met the cost of the event. Most lost money. The cost for these benefits were around $20.00. The question is did they lose money? Was it because they were poorly planned or promoted or do we run when we hear the word benefit. Hmmm I hope it is more of the former rather than the later but I doubt it. My hope is that this year at DIH2 many of the people that come for the party will remember to bring something useful for the orphans of La Casa Rosada. Money always works. Last year I was disappointed because direct donations only amounted to $400.00. Thankfully a few individuals made up for the others by giving sizable donations privately. Let's keep our fingers crossed. The Katrina victims are still without homes, jobs and hope. You aren't seeing much about that on the news anymore. Now is the time to pitch in. I know I will.

Week wrap up. Parties, Events, Summer in Winter and More
Things are never boring in my life. People never believe how much work goes into being independent. I was out every night this week either doing real estate business or promoting the DIH2 event. Even when I was younger I didn't go out much to party but you have to go where the people are to reach them. Hopefully one day soon we will have publications that reach our audience. Clik Magazine is now out and will hopefully keep enough subscribers so that they can continue there work. Maybe they will do a story on the DIH2 event. Even if they don't I encourage everyone to check it out. Buy it today so that we will still have them a year from now. I am getting off track...anyway, I am happy to report that I will be listing a special apartment in Greenwich Village for 1.3 million in January. I met this client 4 years ago and they always told me when they were going to sell they were going to call me. They are an older Jewish couple, not that it matters but I just wish my own people would be as loyal to me and others. The battle continues. Tuesday I went up to Washington Heights to support DIH2 promoter partners, Escandalo Nights. The party was the bomb. I truely enjoy partying with the Dominican's ....it is one of the warmest festive environments I have been in. I wish the drinks were cheaper but I understand they are working on bringing them down. The next night was at Krash for the Black AIDS Institute benefit sponsored by Noah's Arch and Ballroom Rockstar Magazine. Sorry to say there were only 300 people there in a beautiful club that holds 1500 but the spirit was there. Only $20.00 ...go figure. We also found out the Noah's Arch might not be renewed. Why, because we are not writing logo and telling them we are watching it. Please click here and tell them the it is important that Noah's Arch returns for an additional season. We also released the event passes for DIH2 this week. People have been calling and emailing asking when they would be available...Well they are waiting for you ...lets see. Limited passes are available. Glad to see that The Color Purple was not given a bad review in the NY Times. You know it is hard to get a Black musical on Broadway especially one that has lesbian overtones. Ben Brantley left is poison pen at home for a change and gave it a decent review. GO SEE IT FOLKS. I liked it and usually leave the theater at the half. I stayed and enjoyed this one.

Sorry for the wait but I have been busy. Sleeping only a few hours a night and getting right back to work. Today while posting messages on AOL, Adam4Adam and other sites for DIH2, I was contacted by a brother who was seeking a marketing expert. Well, like I need more on my plate, I called him and thus began an hour and a half long conversation about the state of the Black Community, the lack of mentoring within the Black community, the images of Black in films ala the 50 cent movie poster and more. We talked about how the HIV rate for Black Gay Men in climbing in NYC and other urban areas, the lack of networking within our community and finally about some wonderful programs he has in mind. Now to me...maybe only me...that is what the Internet is for.

This is a day to be thankful for many things. Today began with a call at 6:30am from my sister who told me that my brother, his son and her would not be coming to visit. I didn't have to ask the reason why because I knew she couldn't drive from down south to NYC by herself. My brother had once again decided to be selfish and give into the demons of drugs. Yeap...real sad. He was supposed to show up at my sisters house at 2am to begin the long drive north... 3, 4, 5, 6 passed before my Minister sister realized that it wasn't going to happen. Why do people do such stupid things. My brothers 10 year old son was crushed again. I tried to find a rental car so I could go to Philly and bring him up but you could imagine that was impossible on this holiday weekend. All was not lost because God knew what was best in having him display is madness alone. We only pray that he will be Thankful that he is still breathing and run to treatment before it's too late. Pray for him yall.

On a lighter note, I got much needed rest. Stayed in the bed til 5:30pm. I haven't done that in a year and even then I was sick with the flu. Got up, cleaned up the apartment and now going out to promote one of my events. Except for not sharing this day with Family...it was a wonderful day. God Bless.

If you do like I do, ever major holiday I promise that I will do something different. Change my ways, set a new goal, blah blah blah. This Thanksgiving is no different. I think about the fact that we as a Nation are still standing but many are suffering. The news that many Katrina victims, mostly Black, are still without homes. Threatened to be put out on the streets without assistance. Here in New York, we already here the sounds of Christmas carols in the streets...Time to spend more money we don't have.

Please remember the less fortunate at this time. I know I do. Please check out the La Casa Rosada Orphanage were you can see a film of the kids with HIV/AIDS in the Dominican Republic and the loving people that take care of them. There are so many worthy charities out there, just pick one please. Also, check out Doctors without Borders who are doing good work around the world.

What the hell is going on with the weather here in New York. I dressed in a suit with a turtleneck and a wool dress coat when I left the house to preview some high end property today in Tribeca. Don't forget I do Real Estate too for a living. Anyway, I was walking to the subway sweating. By the time I reached Manhattan, only 15 minutes away, the tempeture had drop 20, the 3o degrees. If that wasn't bad enough on my way to look at a club for an upcoming Black History month event in the city it started to rain. That cold winter rain. I had to stop and buy one of those $5.00 umbrella's just so my ass didn't get p-monia. By the time I left the club it was warm again. God must be telling us something. You think?

It was truely "Hot" up in my apartment yesterday afternoon. I was up all night the previous evening working on trying to get the DIH2 launched. I woke up early as usual and got back to work. Mid day I put some turkey legs on the stove and sat on my bed to watch tv for a few minutes. Stupid tired me fell asleep and was awakened by the shrill of a loud noise. I turned off the tv hoping the noise would stop, then put a pillow over my head to drown out the annoying sound. Finally in frustration I got up to look out the window to see what all the racket was about only to discover, you guessed it, the living room/kitchen was full of smoke. All the water had boiled out of the pot with the turkey legs in it. I was still half sleep turning off the burners and trying to get the damn noise to stop. I opened windows while trying to get the fans in them, letting my expensive heat out at the same time, running to fan the front door to get the damn alarm to stop before the police or fire department came. What was I worried about, living in Brooklyn, NY I need not worry...I was at least another a half hour before that happened. Finally I got things under control. Man, I am getting old I guess. That never happened before. Well today I ran into my downstairs neighbor and asked her if she had heard the alarm going off. She said, "Yes, it was going on for awhile." I said why didn't you bang on the door? She said I just thought you were cooking something." I said, Yeah Me! Only in NY. A New Direction and DIH2

It has been awhile since I had time to make a blog entry. Not only is the real estate business busy for me in New York City but also working overtime on the DIH2 event preparations. It has been a real help having the Urbane Concepts family as Producers this year but you know it still takes alot of direct involvement in the day to day. Last night, Anthony Montgomery of Monaga beat me up bad about not keeping up this blog. I told him I didn't think anyone was reading it so why bother. Thanks to his advice I will be keeping it up the best I can.

The new direction will be more of daily entries rather than an announcement site. God knows their are enough of them out there. This blog will be the tales of my new adventures as they unfold. What has been up this week.

Launched the Dominican Island Heat Event Website. Please check it out. Lots of love went into it but what a journey went into it. It still amazes me that with all the people on the Internet and out of work that it is so hard to find good web designers. Especially if you don't have much money.

We hope you all can come to the event, March 1-6 in the Dominican Republic. I had forgotten how difficult it is to market to both men and women for the same event in the LGBT world. If you put an man and a women on a same flyer some might thing it is a straight event, if you put a man and two women on the card some think it is a three some...wow...we will see if people get out way. Some of you may remember Rashawn's story---in February his dismembered body parts were found in garbage bags strewn throughout the borough. He was 19, black, and gay. Though his story was refused coverage in most mainstream media outlets, it has managed to incite overwhelming responses from bloggers, activists and outraged community members alike.

Between 6pm and midnight Luke and Leroy---one of Rashawn's favorite places to party---will proudly host "Brighter Days," the official launch party for the Rashawn Brazell Memorial Scholarship. The requested donation is ten dollars--100% of which will be used to support the college education of a New York City student committed to the fight against racism, sexism and homophobia.

This one I have a vested interest in since I co-produced it. It is a wonderful film about a man's search for love. Second Opinion: Wow was I wrong. I was going around thinking that after 25 years in the entertainment business that I could tell the difference between good and bad product. Well this week I viewed three entertainment programs that I underestimated.

* SKI TRIP - The Movie... I thought this was going to be just another simple story with the traditional gay stereotypes but after watching it last night on LOGO I discovered a wonderful story about friendship and love. Maurice Jamel (writer, director, producer) told a story about a black gay man who turns 30 and was tripping over getting old and being single. Can't tell you more but you got to see it. Gives hope to all the average brothers out there. The are replaying it often. Remember to watch and write LOGO so we get more.

* Story of A Mad Black Women - by now most of you have probably seen it but I avoided the former Beacon Theater type film. Why?...cause I know so many great actors in NYC and LA that aren't working because of the reality tv craze and the singers that try to be actors in productions like that on stage. Anyway, I am getting off the subject. A friend of mine rented Tyler Perry's "Diary of A Mad Black Women" and I was amazed. Another good story that speaks to the world that many of us live in. Excellent acting, cinematography, story line and directing. If you haven't seen it pick it up.

* R. Kelly's in the Closet series - The Bomb... I remember seeing "Hair" and "Tommy." This is the closet R&B opera I have seen. Check it out at http://www.r-kelly.com/index_main.html you can watch one chapter after another and there are surprises for us in it too. Don't get me wrong, I am no big fan of R. Kelly but got to give credit where credit is due. Hat's off to R.

Saw a killer show in New York last night called "Drumstruck." It brought me back to the basics. Got to witness and celebrate in the sounds of the motherland. The stage was filled with our beautiful brothers and sisters from Africa, however, the audience as usual is filled with people that were caucasian. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate their support, however, one day I hope to see a show where the audience is just a black as those on the stage. Now, you say there are shows like... "Mamma Please Save My Son" at the Beacon Theater. Yes, the churches fill those shows up but what about Broadway and Off-Broadway shows...NOT! No wonder there is so few shows in these venues cause time and time again, we don't support them. Friends have said to me "we don't have the money for those expensive shows" to which I reply...those are nice sneakers...how much did they cost...the friends get quiet. check out Drumstruck before it closes. www.drumstruck.com

Speaking of shows if you missed DISPOSABLE MEN written and performed by James Scruggs at the Here Theater, you missed something special. There is still time to catch the amazing Staceyann Chin's Border/Clash at The Culture Project, 45 Bleecker Street at Lafayette. You might know her from Def Poetry Jam. This sista has skills. At a recent performace at Black Pride NYC's Literary Forum, she told the audience how there will never be another Def Poetry Jam on Broadway because we didn't come out and support it. It's sad but true.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, SEPTEMBER 20, 2005: The National Gay Men's Health Summit 2005 will convene in Salt Lake City, Utah October 19-23, 2005. The fourth event of its kind will feature plenary sessions focusing on gay marriage, crystal meth use within the gay male community and what gay men of color want in a gay health movement. Additionally, over 100 workshops over four days will cover topics ranging from health insurance as a gay right, Hepatitis C, HIV superinfection, gay men and obesity and heart disease, on-line dating and hook-ups, domestic violence in same-gender relationships and issues for rural gay men. The Summit will also feature three "pre-summit" all day institutes with topics on racism and homophobia, Native American spirituality and a full day leadership institute with Eric Rofes as a presenter.
"The significance of this event at this time is critical in light of recent ballot and legislative decisions further marginalizing gay people--including California Governor Schwarzenegger's reported intention to veto a bill legalizing gay marriage in that state," David Ferguson, one of the Summit organizers, stated.
The Summit is the fourth event of its kind and is based on a grass-roots model of organizing that fosters increasing capacity of local gay men's health organizations. As many as 400 are anticipated to attend ranging from gay men's health professionals, HIV/AIDS prevention professionals as well as the "every-day-gay" man. If you don't live in New York City you probably don't know about the struggle going on for power in New York City politics. On Monday I was asked to attend a meeting by Dr. Lenora Fulani regarding the "Bloomberg on C" coalition. This might get complicated but let me try to explain. This activist, who ran for President of the United States twice, has put together a coalition of Black and Latino activists to vote for current Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg on the Independence column. Why? She states that the Democratic Party has for too long taken advantage of the Black vote. Those that are continually disenfranchised have now started to count on the Black vote without feeling that they have to work or account to the constituents. She and the coalition believes that their efforts to deliver Black votes to the current Mayor will give them more power and influence than voting the Democratic Party line. Now what is interesting is the smear campaign currently being waged against this life long activist because of statements made over a decade ago about the Jewish people. Over the last few weeks I have spoken to many people about the coalition and Dr. Fulani's point of view. What is interesting is that when I talk to white people they bring up the same things....Al Sharpton's Tawana Brawley incident..to which I reply that not long ago a white women could accuse any black man of rape and that man would be hung without a trial. Rev. Al made a mistake...so what. They bring up Rev. Jessie Jackson and the Hymetown comment...well anyone that thinks that other politicians don't use the "N" word openly are crazy... and others. The real sad part of this whole incident is that the democrats do not believe that Blacks have a right to vote as an independent. We only can vote Democrat....and don't even thing about voting Republican. My civics lessons have taught me that in this United States of America we have the right to freedom of speech and the right to vote and the right to assemble. Take a look at look at the www.ipnyc.org for more information. If you live in the New York City area...keep an eye out with what is happening and take names. This is more about freedom than a Mayor campaign.

What a weekend in NYC. There was so much going on. I will only comment on events I went to personally. Feel free to comment on others that I might have missed. The week kicked off for me at Langston Lounge in Brooklyn on Thursday where owner Calvin Clark and staff had good music, drinks and the hottest dancers in the city. Brothers were feeling it. It is always great to hang out when out of towners come to NY. It gives the clubs a different vibe. I enjoy chatting with people and finding out where they are from. If they smile and answer immediately, usually they are out of towners. Seems like New Yorkers are shocked when people just want to be friendly.

Anyway... Friday was the White Party Moonlight Cruise presented by

legendary promoter James Saunders. James was also one of the original organizers of Black Pride NYC, Inc. and it's current president. This year he presented his third annual Moonlight Cruise on the 17 million dollar yatch, the Horizon. The 300+ guests were treated to a special evening with music by DJ Cameron - who rocked like I never heard him before, DJ Calvin Smith who was also rocking, the "level" Lounge featured the Mel Greenwich Jazz Trio and the spoken word talents of Butterfly Soul, sponsored by ABSOLUT Vodka's premium vodka, 'level". They have co-sponsored the White Party for the third year. They would appreciate it if you could show your support by asking for Level at you local watering hole. Courtesy of Langston Lounge they once again supplied some hot male and female dancers to entertain the crowd. As we moved smoothly around the tranquil waters of Manhattan, guests feasted on a full buffet and deserts. James Saunders continues to provide quality events for the over 30 crowd that often complain that they have nowhere to go. Each time unfortunately the majority of tickets are sold at the last minute. The shame is that if he and other promoters could count on advance sales they could bring bigger and better events without risking everything. More about the world of promotions later. Raffle prizes included Showtime's promotion items from Barbershop the TV series coming out soon.

Got home at 6am and got up early 9am to answer emails and take some calls from European contacts. Went to the Pride in the City Family Day at Commodore Park in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. It's interesting that I had never been to the park although it is in my neighborhood. Unlike Ft. Greene Park, where the event has been held for the last 8 years,..first by the Black Pride NYC , Inc. organization and followed up two years ago by Pride in the City, this event was spread over three separate areas. A huge field where the vendors and VIP tent was located, a parking lot which housed the testing vehicles and the entertainment stage area. It was a beautiful day and I heard that so many people came out near the end of the event around 7pm. The latecomers missed the powerful performance by Debra Cox and the hilarious performance of our own Harmonica Sunbeam. Much money is spent on these community events, it's just a shame that many in the community don't come out earlier to enjoy the full program. My hope is the POCC, the event organizers, were successful in testing enough people to justify the event. I will say they made an admirable attempt.
We left the Park around 6:15 to head over to Manhattan to support the Escandalo Nights

first White Party Cruise on the Queen of Hearts. I love partying with my Dominican brothers and sisters. The producers Fernando and Alberto always make there guests so comfortable and the crowd they draw are warm and friendly. Did we party? It was crazy. Mike Cruz pumping the music, good food and beautiful people. No complainers on this boat.

Sunday brought overcast clouds and a threat of thunderstorms. As we pulled into the parking lot across from the Riis Beach, where the Beach Party was being held, it didn't look like it would be crowded. When we walked on the boardwalk at 3pm we saw thousands of hot men and women enjoying the day. It took almost a half an hour to find a place to lay the blanket. The beach was covered with elaborate tents and setups. The music was loud and pulsating. Hundreds filled the dance tent and the various dj's pounded the crowd with pulsating rhythms. This event also had a area for health screening. Martha Wash sang her songs to an enthused audience and Joselyn Brown still has the magic. I left before the Body Beautiful contest but heard the crowd roar from the parking lot. This was a bitter sweet event for me personally because as many of you know, Black Pride NYC started this event and build it up to 5000 people. Unfortunately, even with the few corporate sponsors we never had the money to do it without the pain. On the brighter side it is good to see the tradition continue and hopefully many were tested. The event was well organized and the crowd once again showed that we can play together without problems. No pictures yet... some to follow..stay tuned.
I was happy that I brought 1000 computer generated flyers to the beach to inform people about the situation in Niger. I begged people to go online (www.wfp.org) or to mail donations to US Friends of the WFP - PO Box 11856 Washington , D.C. 20008 and donate this weekend to help feed the babies that are starving. As you know, I asked all the NY black LGBT promoters to join me in the crusade in raising money from these thousands of people. Unfortunately, only 3 out of 28 promoters and or organizations even responded to my email. More about that later... I am at least glad I tried. My message to the people I met was simple. Just go to the website and donate the cost of one drink to help them. The people that listened said...I heard about that...and I responded...now you can do something about it today. We will never know who I reached or not. God knows I hope a few.
Finally I had to stop by some clubs and support those that have helped me in the past. One party I missed was Seven's party at Luke & Leroy's. Both Nathan Scott and Luke and Leroy's owner Dino have been big supporters but I just couldn't make it over to Manhattan but I hope many of you did. Let me know how the party went. My first stop was Fred Pierce's party in Park Slope at Caddy Shack. What a club... loft like space with two big dance floors, a welcoming staff and an outdoor terrace with free barbecue. Not many people showed up which was surprising to me because it was supposed to be the closing party for the Pride in the City event. Hmmmm more investigation needs to be done on that but those that were there enjoyed the music, the food and the environment. Next we stopped by Temple, Langston Lounge's classic party on Sundays. Once again I was scratching my head to figure out why the club was only half it's normal crowd...Perhaps people were tired out after dancing on the beach all day. Finally we stopped by Chocolate Bar hosted by new promoters, Derrick Briggs and Maurice Jamal. I understand there are some other silent partners but I can't mention them without confirmation. The brothers were out in force. The new club was packed with a youthful crowd. It was HOT...Literally. It was one of the first events at this club so the air conditioning was not pumping hard enough to make it comfortable but it didn't seem to bother the kids. The fact that it was free all night and had an open bar earlier assured a crowd. I also was told it was added at the last minute as another official party for the Pride in the City event. With the new crop of promoters coming up, I hope they won't make the same mistakes of their predecessors; not working together, bashing each other and working against the better good. The fact that there are only two clubs, that I know of, that are owned by black people is an indication that something is not working. They should reach out to the older promoters and ask for advice and counsel instead of trying to put them out to pasture. There is enough money in NYC to go around.

Hot Fun in the Summertime in NYC - what a week. Today, Sunday 7.31.05 there were two community events in different parts of NYC. The first was the GALDE 15th Annual Picnic under the George Washington Bridge in Washington Heights. Hats off to the GALDE organization organizers who pulled off a tight event. Featuring free food, testing, and a stage show and beautiful male and female Dominicans and their admirers. Also, Fernando & Alberto, club promoters of the Monkey Room and Escandalo Nights, put their money where their mouth is by being big supporters of the event. Politician Margarita Lopez joined other dignitaries in this celebration. If you are looking to help this growing organization go to www.galde.org and make a contribution.

Next I hobbled over to Ft. Greene Park in Brooklyn for the weekly summer party. This party has grown. An amazing free party for everyone. This is the best example I have seen of straight, gay, bisexual and transgender people of color who come together through music. You want to talk about a party and some amazing looking people. WOW! I have watched this party grow over the last two years. I can't walk far before running into old friends or acquaintances. The party happens on Sundays from 3pm-9pm. Vendors are on hand for food, clothes and refreshments.

I met all types of promoters at these events pushing their upcoming events. Alberto & Fernando were at the Galde event pushing their upcoming White Party Cruise next week and James Saunders was at Ft. Green Park pushing his White Party Moonlight cruise at Fort Greene Park. Ivan Daniels from LA promoting his First Fridayz party in LA and Fred Pierce with his Sanctuary Party next weekend at Langston Lounge. What I liked from both of these community events was that people were warm and friendly. Not the same standoffishness that one often experiences at clubs.

So this heat in NYC has been overwhelming. I pray for the seniors and shut-ins that are stuck in a hot apartment. Check on your neighbors. Today, I couldn't take it and had to jet out to RIGS Beach in Queens to get away from it. I was surprised to see so many brothers out there doing the same thing. We had fun enjoying the ocean but it was rough. I haven't experienced those kind of waves since Rio. Be careful out there. Anyway, we had many conversations going on. The three that stick out in my mind...One was with three brothers discussing the problems with the black community sticking together. One of the major problems is that we still segregate amoung ourselves be it because of our sexual orientation, the shade of our skin, our profession, and on and on. The second was about the two guy having sex on the beach in a tent at 3pm. Tacky. The third was about a young man looking for love in all the wrong places. Who would have thought there would be such a stimulating conversation at the beach on a work day.

Was happy to hear that my wonderful sister doesn't have cancer. God is great.

Today I was called an old 50 year old man by a 23 year old brother. Hmmm, things have surely changed. Growing up in Philadelphia, Pa I was taught to respect my elders especially those trying to help. What happened. Has the thug culture changed the parents as well? How are are young men and women going to grow up to achieve their potential when they are not taught the power of respect? Maybe one day things will turn around.
History is been working overtime these last few days. The London bombings, the White House scandal, the death of Luther Vandross, the elevation of the security alert. What is next? I don't know about you but it reminds me of the serious times we are in. Says to me its time to kick it up a notch and try and achieve as many things as I can each day. To show my love and concern for my family and friends every moment. What about you. Have you helped someone today?
Ball of Pride Confusion in NYC - Seems like many are confused of when Black Pride NYC is. Well let me see if I can end this confusion. From 1998-2003 Black Pride in New York City was held during the first week of August. Years of building and promoting the August event in New York by dedicated volunteers and Board members went into it. Then in 2002, ONE of the former sponsors of the annual event, and it must be said NOT HRC, ABSOLUT, Verizon, Budweiser, MCC Church, Next Magazine, NY Blade, Go-NYC Magazine, Langston Lounge or any of the many promoters, decided that they could do the same type of event better. Instead of selecting another time and programming, they choose to hold their event entitled "Pride in the City" on the same weekend in August as Black Pride NYC. Still confused? So am I. Please don't get me wrong. This organization has a worthly cause, to get as many people tested as possible during the weekend. Now that is admirable and with all it's government funding, which I have been told is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, in my humble opinion they should have picked another date as not to confuse the public. So, faced with much less funding than the competing organization Black Pride NYC decided to move the annual event to the last week of June in 2004 to coincide with the Heritage of Pride event. The rationale was they at least they could provide quality programming of people of color to the world at large. Now the move was risky because all the media was focused on the "white" events. It was very difficult to get the message of the move through. The beach and the park events last year were not very well attended so this year Black Pride NYC scaled back the size of the event held June 22-26, 2005 but not the quality. If you missed it ... you missed something special. You can still see what the people in your community put together for you ...go to www.blackpridenyc.org. Now that is the truth no matter what you heard on the street. For those that are still looking for the August event you can get information at www.prideinthecity.com. My hope is one day the big gorrilla well give back to those hundreds of volunteers that built Black Pride NYC so that they can continue their work of bringing positive images of the Black LGBT community to the forefront. If you do go to the Pride in the City event, please take the opportunity to get tested, if you haven't already done so. It don't hurt. (Editors note... these comments are mine alone. Soul singer D’Angelo was critically injured in a recent Sept. 19 accident in Powhatan County, Virginia.
Virginia State Police said D'Angelo, born Michael Eugene Archer, was driving on Route 711 when his 2003 hummer ran off the road, struck a fence and flipped over.
D’Angelo was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. Police have yet-to-determine who was driving the vehicle when it crashed.
A passenger in the SUV, Lynne Sellers, was also injured.
D’Angelo and Sellers were taken to VCU Medical center. As of press time, no further information was available about their medical conditions.

RIP Mike Stone
It is with my deepest regret that I must inform you of the untimely passing of the most legendary club promoter and impresario Mike Stone. Mike, renown in the 70’s and 80’s for his extravagant party events at the infamous Studio 54 in Manhattan, moved on from this world, Monday night, September 19. A pioneer in a new genre of business called nightclub promotion, it was Mike Stone who put the hugely successful Bonds International on the map along with so many other notable clubs in New York City over the last three decades. To present it in terms of familiarity for the younger generation, it was Mike who first organized and developed both the Warehouse parties in the Bronx and the Playground in Manhattan. If there is but one consolation in his tragic passing, it is that he no longer must endure the pain of his long-standing illness and we can be assured that he is now in a much better place. May his legacy long be remembered and cherished by the thousands who have enjoyed his talents over the years and be honored and respected by the many promoters who will follow in his footsteps.
Arrangements have been made for a memorial and final viewing Saturday, September 24 at St. Augustine Presbyterian Church, 838 East 165th Street at Prospect Ave., Bronx, NY from 11am to Noon and service from noon at 2pm

As many of you know, I have been going to and throwing special event parties for a long time. Last night I was invited to the Courvoisier Party in Manhattan by marketing guru, David Watkins. David had a mutual friend, Calvin Clark from Langston Lounge to reach out to me to come. Calvin knew I just got back from Brazil and probably would pass on the invitation but he kept saying, "You will love this event." Man was he right. David really threw down. The event was held in a downtown 21 million dollar penthouse complete with stone fireplaces, a marble gothic bathroom like I have never scene, two outdoor gardens and a swimming pool. Yall know I know real estate. That is my primary profession and have sold to many entertainers. The whole night I was thinking who I could see this place too. Anyway, in addition to the venue, the Courvoisier people had a full sushi bar, American food, beautiful models and some great looking people. My boi Calvin Clark and Associates were hired to make the light boxes, music stands, candle racks and serving trays. I didn't even know the man did stuff like that. The celebrities were there as well. Too many to mention plus I didn't know half their names anyway. Biz Markie was spinning with live bands playing on another level. I started reading the book on the ride home last night..or should I say this morning and couldn't put it down. On Saturday, August 27th I had the priviledge of co-hosting the first "Cocktails & Conversation" event at the beautiful Brooklyn home of businessman, Wayne Cato. Thirty-five single black gay men joined together for cocktails supplied by ABSOLUT and Bud Light and conversation. The special guest for the evening was political activist Dr. Lenora Fulani. She talked about her work with the Independent Party and the All Stars Project in New York City. After her presentation the gentleman dined on food prepared by Chef Michael of Majestic's Catering and then chilled out and talked about whatever to each other. The evening went better than expected because it was an early evening event which necessitated brothers coming on time which most did. Wow, what a night. Yesterday I almost drowned in the ocean of Fire Island. I was at the Fire Island Blackout enjoying cool people and the wonderful day. Went into the sea like I have done many times since the age of three. Riding the waves and swimming freely. The ocean this day was very angry. She pulled me in past the crests where swell after swell broke me down. I got tired of fighting her and knew I was in big trouble. After calling the Lord for guidance, I looked around to see a buddy of mine far away but within sight. I called Matt and said Matt I am in trouble...come help me out. This brother swam like an Olympic swimmer and grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the danger zone. He didn't ask any questions nor mentioned it again. A true hero and mostly importantly an excellent example of brotherhood. Matt doesn't even know me that well but he came to the aid of a brother.
Once on shore I looked around a saw all these gay black men and women and thought about what it would have been like if I didn't make it. The cops and ambulance trying to save me and then they would take me away. The word would spread from one person to another, each time with a different version being told, but what did it matter. Would the focus be on how I looked? or how I died? or who I was? or what I did?. When one faces death one asks the question... how will I spend the rest of my life?...what and who are important to me? It shouldn't take that kind of experience to pose those questions but every now and then I need a reminder.

I will always remember that it wasn't a group of gay brothers and sisters that pulled me out of harm's way but the caring of one man that brought me through. You never know who your hero will be so treat everyone as if your life depended on them and theirs on you. Wow..what a wonderful world it would be.

NEWS FLASH
On Friday evening, during the shooting of Noah's Arc, America's First Black Gay Television Series (MTV Logo), the Nation of Islam, led by Minister Tony Muhammad, led a protest against the show resulting in the show having to stop production. Approximately 150 Black Muslims along with Muhammad protested against the show near the intersection of Rodeo and 6th Avenue in Los Angeles.
This is very serious and could happen again. Bigotry and intolerance cannot be ignored and accepted in our community any longer. In addition, what message is that sending to MTV Networks regarding the show, that Black people don't want a Black gay series. This is untrue.
We cannot depend on the gay community at-large to take up our battles in our own community. We need to lead that fight. The Black community needs to see us.
If a community response if mobilized on behalf of Noah's Arc and the community at-large, would you participate?
Because we are dealing with the Nation of Islam, it would be a disservice to organize a counter-protest to only have it attended by a handful of people or people that are not African American given the Nation's history with people who are Black. I know it's not pretty, but the facts are the facts. And this is not to exclude anyone from participating, but to make it clear that if this is going to work in favor of our community, then the Black LGBT community is going to be instrumental in making that happen.

Black promoters are still battling for your dollars. They step on and over each other to compete when most of them don't own their own building. They go to white club owners and rent the facilities in order to make a few pieces of gold from you. Imagine if some of the top black lesbian and gay promoters would get together and pool their resources to get an event space that they could own or control. Imagine if there was a database of the hundreds of thousands of email names that could be marketed to corporate sponsors so that they could directly market to this profitable market. Imagine if these same promoters could support various small non profits struggling to maintain a staff to provide services to our community and put on one big fundraiser that could help these groups along. Imagine if the Black LGBT community supported these promoters and organizations year-round by purchasing tickets far enough in advance that these same promoters would push the envelop and bring special events that you would be proud to attend. As we all know, we wait til the last minute to buy tickets or support events. Imagine if egos disappeared and contributions increased. What a vicious cycle. Yesterday I was at a closing from Hell!!!. It took seven and a half hours to close the deal. Why? Because the buyers signed a contract for a no mortgage contingency deal. That means that the buyer might get financing however they have the ability to pay the purchase price with or without it. Well yesterday as we waited and waited in a stuffy conference room hour after hour for a 1.8 million dollar check to be delivered by the buyer to the seller, nerves got frayed to say the least. The sellers attorney kept threatening to leave the closing and keep the buyers $225,000 deposit. The obviously didn't have the money without the bank giving the mortgage. Now that wasn't the deal was it? A couple of good lessons come from this story. 1) Never promise what you can't deliver. 2) Make sure you hire a competent attorney - in this case the seller had a great attorney and the buyer had one that didn't do his job. 3) Have a cool and calm real estate agent that can try and keep all parties at the table. (-: 4) Have nerves of steel. 5) Pray alot.

Real Estate is still hot!!! Have you noticed that many of the people you talk to down South own their own homes. Up North it seems impossible to buy. Guess what, it isn't. Here are some helpful hints that you might want to consider:

Call a reputable mortgage broker and see what you can qualify for. It's free. Just tell them the truth so they can let you know how much you can afford to spend to buy something. Don't worry about the downpayment. You can worry about that later.
Check your credit report. You might think it is worse or better than it really is. Why not know for sure. Go to www.google.com and type in free credit report. Aol has a free service. Just make sure you deal with a company that you can trust because you don't want everyone to have your social security number. If you find problems on the credit report -fax the credit reporting agencies with the problems and get them resolved.
Attend the free seminars for first time homebuyers. I was a presenter at one last week in the East Village of NYC and not one person of color was there. Hmmmm. We have to change that. There are alot of programs out there...take advantage of them while you can.
Once you know how much you can afford to pay for the apartment or house, you will need anywhere from 5%-20% of the purchase amount to put down. So, lets assume you want to buy a $300,000 house in Queens, you would need anywhere from $15,000-$60,000 to put down. There are ways for some mortgage companies to give you partial downpayment funds. You would be surprised how quickly relatives might pitch in to help you with this investment. Look at all your options.
Save up money out of each check for your downpayment. Every time you want to buy a pair of new sneakers or clothers...hold up and think about that dream house. It is not that long off.
Explore many locations. You don't have to buy in the NYC area. Upstate Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Baltimore are all hot right now because the properties are still reasonable and more and more people are renting each year. They can wind up paying your mortgage. Don't forget about investments in foreign countries. Get expert advise on it. Check out www.craigslist.com or your local newpapers for current properties on the market. In New York www.nytimes.com has an excellent real estate section.
Pick a good real estate broker to work with you. Be honest with them on the stage you are in and stay in contact with them. If they know you will be loyal most brokers will work with you. Remember, they only get paid if you buy through them. You can have a buyer broker working for you. Think about it.

I will try to give you a little preview about what happened last week in Salvador, Brazil. What an amazing time. I arrived in Salvador on Thursday morning after changing planes in Sao Paulo. There was some turbulence but it wasn’t the worst I been through. Got to the apartment I had rented only to find out there was no soap and no toilet paper. Can you imagine…after flying 13 hours…well you know…to things you need…a toilet and a shower. Went out to the supermarket and tried to find my way around. I did pretty well. Jumped in a cab and went back to the apartment.

Cooked some food and got into the streets. Walking around alone in a foreign county can be a

little scary yet exciting. Made my way to the
center of town and passed by some familiar landmarks. My interpreter could meet me so I was on my own. Finally went home and went to sleep.

Today I want to talk about travel. I still amazes me when I meet people that have never left the state they live in. What is that about? Nowadays you can travel cheaper than ever before.

I know I know...a blog is supposed to be updated often. I do my best but it ain't easy doing blogs while in the Dominican Republic for alot of reasons. First of all the internet speeds aren't what they are here. I am impatient... you all know that. Second, there are too many distractions, beautiful weather, men vying for my attention and of course business. That is the main reason I go so much (0: Dominican Island Heat II is coming soon - March 1-6, 2006 and we are planning some different stuff for yall. You know I had to go down there and start making things happen.This trip brought to mind the meaning of true friendship. Those that come to each others aid when necessary. True friends do so voluntarily...by choice not by force. My boi Greg is always there to help out me as well as others. Sends stuff down to people he barely knows simply to hear of their laughter, smiles and enjoyment. I have watched another friend Anthony...yall know him from Monaga... trying to rebuild a business in the very difficult economic environment of the Dominican Republic. Facing adversity from all ends yet I have witnessed the many friends that support him in making his dream come true. There are those who claim friendship but never do anything to prove it. I meet some new friends on this trip. A brother from Atlanta that went around with me to different business meetings and did translation for me while he was on vacation. Thanks Ty, and he didn't ask for anything. This brother got it going on with his language skills. Dr. Leon of the Phoenix Bar took me to lunch in thanks for Dominican Island Heat I. He appreciated the business we brought to DR and how he benefited from the event without any risk. In addition, he introduced us to the Manager of the Arena Club in Santo Domingo. Thanks Doc.
Then there was Narsiso in the mountains of San Christobal that opened his home to us to chill with a day in the country. He invited some of his local friends over to chill as well. It's always good to see the familiar faces in DR and the con artists too. There are many, but you get to know them and they you. It's an understanding. I returned this morning with an urgent call from a friend stuck without money to get home from the airport. She called collect so I went to the bank...got some money and called a car service. She needed to get home. This is the same friend when I was down on my luck made sure that I had something to eat. THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR.

A day at Great Adventure. For me the best part was the the kids we took there had a good time. I hadn't been to the theme park in 20 years and now know why. First the price is crazy - $54.00 a person and for that you get to stand in line for hours to get on a 2 minute ride. Not that I cared cause I don't ride roller coasters. The food and drinks were also expensive. Money Money Money... crazy. The thing is they would make 3 times as much money if they charged less to get in and for concessions. My opinion. Thanks to my friends Jermaine and Leo who went with us. They like those crazy rides like Batman, Batman and Robin and the American Scream Machine. I don't get it but they do...

The purpose of the outing was to fullfill my commitment to take my little wards on a trip once or twice a year. It started 10 years ago with 3 year old Atiba and 11 years later the crew has grown. I was reminded that we didn't take our out of town trip this year so I let him invite some of his friends to Great Adventure. Shoot...for all them money I spent we could have flown to Florida. The kids had fun. They are all growing young men. All of them do well in school and are well mannered. If you haven't taken time to mentor a youth you are missing out on something special. Next year is the International trip. His last one was London. Who knows where we will end up.

I wrote my letter to the secretary of state, A BLACK WOMEN, to find out what we are doing to help. I will call on all promoters that will make lots of money this weekend in NYC during the "PRIDE in the City" event to show pride by donating some money to our starving brothers and sisters. HUMAN ALERT - News about the famine in Africa - our brothers and sisters are starving. Do something now!! Children are dying of starvation in feeding centres in Niger, where 3.6m people face severe food shortages, aid agencies have warned. I woke up this morning after a interesting dream. In the dream I was told that I only had 6 hours to live. I could believe it but I was surprisingly calm. My father came back to help me get things together but I woke up before I passed.

It got me to thinking what I would want to do in those last hours. Would I be looking for sex, drugs, a loved one to help me in my journey. Would I be looking at my bills and bank statements, reading a book, chatting online, looking for sex?

I try to live each day as my last and don't understand how many others don't. I value friendship tremendously but get frustrated when those that I thought were my friends betray me.

I wonder how I would fill those last hours. Hopefully saying I love you just one more time to those that I might leave behind.
